Iloha has recently successfully secured the renewal of its “European Ecolabel – Tourist Accommodation Services” certification for the fourth consecutive time. Much more than just an eco-label, it is a symbol of a strong commitment to sustainable tourism on Réunion Island.
A long-standing commitment to sustainable tourism
A jewel of the Indian Ocean, Réunion is a vibrant island with a diverse landscape combining volcanoes, tropical forests, wild cirques, coral reefs and beaches… A natural environment of breathtaking and exceptional beauty, which has earned its peaks, cirques and ramparts a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2010, covering over 100,000 hectares, or 40% of the island’s surface area.
The ILOHA Seaview Hotel*** therefore blends perfectly into this extraordinary setting. Since its establishment in 1997, the hotel has been actively working to preserve this rich yet fragile natural heritage. This dynamic commitment to the preservation of Réunion’s nature and landscape has rightly been recognised with the award of the ‘European Ecolabel – Tourist Accommodation Services’ certification, a distinction first achieved in 2015.
The comprehensive nature of the action plan and the commitment to continuous improvement have been recognised
The European Ecolabel is a voluntary scheme shared by all members of the European Union. Established in 1992, it is the only official eco-label recognised throughout the Union, and is awarded in France following a biennial audit conducted by AFNOR Certification.
Fully committed to environmental initiatives, the Iloha teams have successfully achieved a score of 44.5 points out of the 31 required to obtain the European Ecolabel. This is a score 3 points higher than in 2021. The audit also recognised the continuous improvement initiative and the effectiveness of engagement strategies, such as the appointment of environmental mentors within the Iloha teams, their regular training in eco-friendly practices, and the refreshing of their knowledge through fun activities (quizzes, challenges, etc.). The auditors also highlighted other measures:
– The approval of new optional criteria
– The environmental aspect of new projects
– Encouraging customers to help reduce waste by purchasing water bottles made from sugarcane
– Commitment to a CSR approach…
Iloha’s commitment to sustainable development and beyond
The commitments made by ILOHA Seaview Hotel*** to sustainable development focus on three main areas: waste sorting and reduction, wastewater treatment, and water and energy conservation.
Aware of its social and economic impact, the hotel is also committed to a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), notably by promoting Réunion’s local heritage and expertise through the use of short supply chains and local produce, as well as by improving the hotel’s accessibility for all and combating discrimination, and raising awareness of disability issues through the integration and training of staff in dealing with disability, in collaboration with ‘La Réunion pour Tous’.
